Thursday was the final day that teams could place the dreaded “franchise” tag on players, making it next to impossible for those players to move to other teams during the free agency signing period. If a player that is franchised gets an offer from another team, the team they are on has the choice of matching the offer, or if they decline, they will lose the player but get two first-round draft choices in return.
This season a record number of players got the franchise tag, as no less than 14 players were tagged, almost half of the teams placing the franchise tag on players. Here are the list of players franchised:
S Oshiomogho Atogwe — Rams
WR Antonio Bryant — Buccaneers
QB Matt Cassel – Patriots
LB Karlos Dansby — Cardinals
K Shayne Graham — Bengals
LB Leroy Hill — Seahawks
RB Brandon Jacobs — Giants
P Michael Koenen — Falcons
DE Julius Peppers — Panthers
CB Dunta Robinson — Texans
TE Bo Scaife – Titans
RB Darren Sproles — Chargers
T Max Starks — Steelers
LB Terrell Suggs — Ravens
