The Raiders today reached a deal with stud cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, that makes him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history. He signs a deal worth $45.3 million over three-years. ESPN’s John Clayton is reporting that Asomugha is guaranteed $28.5 million in a complicated deal that features a provision in which the entire contract can be guaranteed if the Raiders decide to keep the 27-year-old for the third season.

The team made another deal on Wednesday that saw punter Shane Lechler agree to a four-year, $16 million contract, the richest ever for a punter. Both deals were negotiated by agent Tom Condon, with Raiders owner Al Davis having significant involvement in brokering the agreements.

Asomugha was the Raiders first-round pick back in 2003, and has 10 picks and one TD in six seasons. Teams rarely throw his way though, which is why he does not collect as many picks as some other big name corners in the league.
