Browns Hire Former Jets Coach Eric Mangini as Head Coach
Posted by Matt Loede under Cleveland Browns, New York Jets

The first NFL coaching vacancy of the 2009 offseason has been reached, as the Cleveland Browns have come to terms with former New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini. The team made the official announcement on their website on Wednesday, and stated that the agreement between the team and Mangini came on Tuesday.
Mangini was fired by the Jets a day after the season ended, as the Jets went from 8-3 to 9-7 and out of the playoffs in the AFC. He spent three seasons with the Jets, and made the playoffs the first season when the team fell to the Pats, but then they missed the postseason the following two years.
The Plain Dealer in Cleveland is also reporting that Manigni has targeted current New York quarterbacks coach Brian Daboll and current Jets receivers coach Noel Mazzone for key offensive positions with the Browns.
The Browns have yet to hire a GM, but it appears that the front-runner from the start, Scott Pioli, is out of the mix, and the team may now look at Eagles GM Tom Heckert.
