The rumor of Fred Taylor going on IR appears to be a reality. The Jags will be putting Taylor on injured reserve due to a thumb injury. He tore ligaments in his left thumb Sunday at Chicago in the loss to the Bears. Taylor was going to try and play though the injury, but a second opinion confirmed the need for season-ending surgery.

Taylor will finish this season with 556 yards rushing and a career-low 3.9 yards a carry. He ranks 16th on the NFL’s all-time rushing list with 11,271 yards, 81 behind John Riggins.

The Jaguars worked out running backs Alvin Pearman and LaBrandon Toefield on Wednesday and were expected to sign one of them to fill Taylor’s roster spot.

Poor guy had a lackluster season to pass the milestone 15,000 yards. Maybe next year he can surprise us like 07.
