The jail system has finally caught up to O.J. Simpson. The 61-year-old football Hall of Famer was sentenced today to at least 15 years in prison for a hotel armed robbery involving sports memorabilia. Simpson spoke in the court, which came to a surprise, saying “I didn’t want to steal anything from anyone. … I’m sorry, sorry.”
The judge in the case, Jackie Glass, said several times that the sentence for Simpson had nothing to do with the 1994 acquittal in the slaying of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. Bottom line, Simpson has played with fire for too long, and Friday in court room in Vegas it caught up with him.
Simpson’s co-defendant and former golfing buddy, Clarence “C.J. Stewart, also was sentenced to at least 15 years for being by his side when he pulled off the robbery and kidnapping back last September.
“Everything in this case was on tape,” Glass said. “The evidence in this case was overwhelming.”
