Chiefs RB Johnson Suspended One Game
Filed Under Kansas City Chiefs, Off The Field News, Police Blotter | Leave a Comment

With still a number of off the field issues following him around, the league today decided they will sit Chiefs RB Larry Johnson for the teams week 10 game at San Diego. Johnson hasn’t played for the Chiefs the past two weeks, and word is he’ll sit this Sunday when the team takes on the Bucs at home.
“We respect the decision of commissioner Goodell,” said Carl Peterson, president of the Chiefs. “The NFL player conduct policy sets forth a set of standards that all NFL players, coaches and staff members must abide by. Upon the completion of his suspension we sincerely hope that Larry will be ready to return to the field for the Chiefs determined to make a positive contribution to our team and, with the assistance of the people around him, turn his life around.”
The damage to Johnson’s suspension means that he’ll lose out on about $147,000, or one game check. The suspension comes from an assault charge that took place from an incident when Johnson spat at a women’s face at the club back on October 10th.
It’s not the only incident involving Johnson, who also faces a December 4th court date for another incident that occurred last February when he allegedly pushed a woman’s face in another Kansas City nightspot.

The Packers have seen enough of QB Aaron Rodgers that they feel he is going to be the long-term QB of their future. Today Rodgers got rewarded with a contract though the 2014 season. Rodgers signed the paperwork Friday and the team announced the deal shortly thereafter.
“It means a lot,” Rodgers said. “I’m very excited knowing that my future is going to be here in Green Bay. I appreciate the commitment that they’ve made, and I plan to reciprocate that commitment in my play and hopefully prove to them that they made the correct decision giving me this extension.”
Rodgers was the teams first round pick of the Pack when he fell down the first round board back in 2005, and then he spent three tough years behind Brett Favre until the team finally said enough to Brett and traded him to the Jets this past offseason and gave the starting job to Rodgers.

Vikings QB Jackson Still Hoping for a Shot to Start in 08
Filed Under Minnesota Vikings | Leave a Comment

Tarvaris Jackson has not only lost his starting job, he’s now running scout team QB for the Vikings, showing just how much faith coach Brad Childress and the team does NOT have in the player that was supposed to take a big step forward in 2008. Jackson is now behind starter Gus Frerotte and while he’s still listed as the two on the depth chart ahead of John David Booty, you have to wonder if the team would really turn to him if Frerotte gets hurt.
Asked if he is still developing as a QB, Jackson told the Pioneer Press he really doesn’t know. “It’s hard to really tell right now,” Jackson said. “Besides the scout team, I’m not getting the reps. I guess when I get back out on the field, you’ll be able to tell whether this process has helped me out or not.” He is hoping that he can get his starting job back sooner rather than later. “Hopefully,” he said. “I’m just taking it one day at a time right now, and however things pan out. . . . I really can’t control it if I’m on the field or not. So I’m just doing what I can.”
Being the scout team QB is a rather humbling experience for Jackson, who many felt would be able to improve in 2008 and get ready to take the Vikings on a playoff run. Instead, he struggled early, and after two bad games was pulled for the veteran Frerotte, who has played well enough to keep the job though the remainder of the first half of the season.
“It’s a lot different going from the starter back to the scout team,” Jackson said. “But you’ve got to take it for what it’s worth and try to get better.” It will be interseting to see if Jackson ever really gets a chance again to regain that starting job with the position he put the team in this season playing poorly and forcing them to make the move so early in the season to Frerotte.

It was another frustrating week for the Oakland Raiders, as they were beat up on offense and ran over on defense at Baltimore on Sunday. This week they return home for an interesting matchup vs the Atlanta Falcons, a team that even though they lost in Philly last week, hung in with a team many think will a contender in the NFC.
The Raiders have struggled somewhat on offense since coach Lane Kiffin was shown the door after the teams 28-18 loss back on September 28th. Since then they have scored just 29 points in three games, and things didn’t get much better last week in losing 29-10 to the Ravens.
This week should bring an interesting challenge with the Falcons in town. If the Raiders want to try and attack the Falcons, they likely should look to the air, as Atlanta is allowing 232.9 yards per game passing. JaMarcus Russell has had his own issues the last few weeks, but this could be a game where he gets back on track.

NFL Week 9 is upon us. Last week was an even week, going 7-7, and bringing my season mark against the numbers to 56-57. Here is our picks for week nine around the NFL:
Houston at Minnesota (-4.5)
A tough game to call. The Vikings are coming off a bye, and the Texans have really impressed me in winning three in a row after an 0-4 start. Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson is the best QB to WR combo in the league right now, and the Texans offense is hitting on all accounts. Gus Frerotte has played well enough at QB to keep the job in Minnesota and it’s time for the Vikings D to start to step up. I like the Vikings at home to pull off a close win, so I will take Minnesota, but not give the points. Minnesota 17 Houston 14
Jackonsville (-7.5) at Cincinnati
Man are the Bengals bad. Last week they were never in the game down in Houston, and with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the QB spot, the team is putting up just over 10 points per game. Now they run into a not so happy Jags team that is back under .500 after their home loss to the Browns last week. The Jags have had O-line issues all season, which is why they have had issues running. This week they will run, and likely be able to run over the Bengals in getting back to .500. Jacksonville 27 Cincinnati 7
