I think that it is safe to say that you can file this under “Boneheaded Actions of the Year”; according to ESPN.com, New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was suspended one game by the team for an undescribed violation of team rules. Burress was informed of the suspension by Giants general manager Jerry Reese and head coach Tom Coughlin prior to the team’s bye week practice Wednesday morning.

This episode began when Burress did not report to the team’s practice facility as expected on Monday and – this probably sealed the deal – did not return phone calls to the team seeking an explanation; the suspension begins immediately, meaning burress will miss the Giants’ next game, which is on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Because the Giants have a bye week, Burress will lose 2 paychecks, totalling $235,294; he will not be allowed with the team during their bye week and won’t be allowed to practice with them next week.
