Tony

Tampa Bay won the division last year with a 9-7 record, and it was really a toss up cause all the teams in the NFC South were bad. This year the division is still weak and the Panthers with a healthy Delhomme should have no problem winning the division.

The Carolina Panthers will win the NFC South this season because they are the best team in the division. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the division last season with a record of 9-7 and only because the Panthers had a horrible season. People need to stop playing around with this New Orleans Saints crap and except that they're not for real. Yeah they look good on paper but I think they were supost to win the superbowl last season yet they finished 7-9 just like the Panthers and they had Drew Brees the entire season. What was wrong with them when they lost those 4 straight games at the start of the season? Nothing and that just proves that they suck and the Panthers are great. Jon Beason is better than Patrick Willis and he will prove that this season for sure. Jake Delhomme is going back to the Pro Bowl and will be named "come-back player of the year". Steve Smith will have 1500+ yards and 12 or more TD's. Jonathan Stewart will be rookie of the year and DeAngelo Williams will show everyone why we spent a 1st round pick on him in 2006. Watch out everyone this is the Panthers year and the Cardiac Cats are BACK!!!!!

Fantasic read. Well researched and spot on, for the most part.

Couple things I noticed:

1) Matt Moore is entering his second year, you said he was undrafted three seasons ago.

2) Kalil played horribly at the beginning of the season when he was out of position at RG. After incumbent center Justin Hartwig went down...again...Kalil stepped in and played well getting good push in the run game and not giving up any sacks.

3) I think Marshall is a good fit at the NB spot- Lucas has been hampered by some injuries. At the end of the '07 season he (and Thomas Davis) required surgery on torn labrums. Lucas seems to have struggled more than Davis in recovery, but you can't over look that Carolina's terrible pass rush left Lucas on an island with some of the leagues best WR's. Harris was new to the secondary and FS Deke Cooper was near useless in pass coverage. I like Marshall a lot, but not quite enough to take the starting job.

Lucas is also a physical, bump and run style of corner, something Carolina does very little of.

4) Glad to see that not everyone hates Gamble. You said he was solid in all aspects and I would have to disagree. He's very good in coverage, but his tackling and run support leave something to be desired. I do think he's the Panthers best all around CB, with Lucas being the best at the point of attack and Gamble being the best in coverage.

5) When discussing Carolina's secondary I think you have to mention coach Tim Lewis, former DC for the Giants and friend to Coach Fox. His arrival had a profound impact on the secondary and the guys absolutely love him.

Again, I thought this was a terrific read. If anyone was smart, this would be the report read rather than those from the big media "experts."

Thanks,

Well, for starters i believe that there is no way anyone can have Carolina as finishing first in the division. For several reasons. Tampa Bay won the division last year without any major losses coming into 2008. Also, New Orleans is far more talented than any of the other 3 teams in the division, especially with a much improved defense. Carolina will no doubt be a better team this year but by no means will they come out #1.
