The Oakland Raiders made a roster move on Monday as according to the Associated Press, the team signed Adam Archuleta to a contract in an attempt to add depth to their defense; to show how needy the Raiders appear to be, they worked out Archuleta in the morning, then performed a physical before signing him. With the signing, Archuleta will go to linebacker, the position he played while at Arizona State.
Archuleta was cut in May by the Chicago Bears after just one season; he broke a hand early last season and started just 10 of 15 games. He subsequently lost his starting job to rookie Brandon McGowan and wound up on special teams. Since the big signing with the Washington Redskins in 2006, Archuleta’s career has taken a downward spiral, only starting 7 games and playing on special teams before being dealt to the Bears for a 6th-round draft pick. He has started 86 of 103 games in his career; to make room for Archuleta, Oakland released safety Greg Wesley.
