Celebrate! After Two Awful Seasons, Gumble Done with NFL Network

One of the worst play-by-play combos in history has come to an end after two seasons, as Bryant Gumbel has called it quits at NFL Network. The overblown announcer released the following statement about leaving the Network as the play-by-play man after two seasons. “I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me,” Gumbel said in a statement. “But we’ve agreed that we’d all be better served going in different directions.”

Gumbel was possibly one of the worst, if not the worst, play-by-play man in the history of the NFL. He was uninformed, boring, late on calls, and unlike his brother, who has gotten better over the years, showed no signs of getting any better. Along with Chris Collinsworth, who does at times have moments of being okay, this group made Thursday and Saturday night football games almost unwatchable.

It was always bad enough to have to hear the elder Gumble spew out his thoughts and outlooks on “Real Sports” on HBO, but to have to put up with him during some of the better games of the NFL season (such as the Packers at Cowboys last season) was a discredit to the league. See ya Bryant, you will not be missed.

Just a slight correction, Bryant Gumble is actually the younger brother by two years.

I’m in the minority on this, but I didn’t mind Gumble. Or, perhaps it would be more accurate if I said I didn’t mind Gumble as much as many other play-by-play guys like Joe Buck, Dick Enberg and Nantz.

Buck, Enberg, and Nantz are all good PBP guys.

Enberg’s getting up there age, but still I like to listen to him.

Buck is fine w/ me - he is really good @ what he does.

Nantz is one of my favorite PBP guys.

Gumbel was just bad period. Plain & Simple!
