Colt Brennan out up to three months
Posted by Al Gordon under 2008 NFL Draft, Off The Field News
Colt Brennan the 3rd place finisher in the Heisman voting and Hawaii’s record setting quarterback will be sidelined from 8-12 weeks.
Brennan, expected to be a middle round pick will undergo surgery on April 7th to repair what is being called a slightly torn labrum in his right hip. The more than likely will drop him to a lower round pick in the upcoming draft.
The surprising announcement was made during Hawaii’s pro- day in Carson, Ca at the Home Dept Center. The injury reportedly happened during the first practice in January for the Senior Bowl.
Doctors thought the injury could heal by itself. As Brennan trained for the combine, the hip continued to bother him, making him seek a second opinion. Dr. Mark Philippon recommended surgery was the best way to fix the problem. Dr. Philippon had previously preformed a similar surgery on former NFL running back Preist Holmes.
Brennan who did not participate in any of the physical testing but did throw the ball. He threw 88 different NFL type passes completing all but 14 of them.
One scout whose team is interested in drafting Brennan claimed it all depends on a teams needs. “For some teams, the surgery will be a negative issue,” the scout said, “yet we would not expect Brennan to play much as a rookie; so it is unlikely to affect the way we grade him.”
Brennan holds 20 different NCAA records.
