Jets Moving Fast as Free Agency Kicks Off

As expected, the Jets are hot and heavy after free agent guard Alan Faneca, as reports are New York has offered Faneca a four-year deal worth $32 million. The contract offer was made to Faneca just after midnight, when he became a free-agent for the first time in his career. Faneca leaves the Steelers after 10 seasons in which he was a seven-time Pro Bowler, and five-time All-Pro selection. He was expected to be the top guard on the market, and numerous teams including the Jets, Cardinals, Eagles and Bears had expressed interest in his services.

At the same time the team appears to have cleared up the issue of trading linebacker Jonathan Vilma, as reports are the team has struck a deal with the New Orleans Saints for a conditional draft choice. Vilma will give the Saints linebacking core a big boost should he be able to stay healthy, as he had knee surgery last season after getting hurt in early October. Vilma, a former first-round pick, played four seasons in New York with 439 tackles and six picks.

The team is also in talks with the Panthers about making a move to acquire DT Kris Jenkins. He is a three-time Pro Bowler, and would boost a D-line that was terrible last season against the run, ranking 29th overall.

    Im pretty sure Vilma’s stats are incorrect
    as he has only been with the Jets for 3 season but has over 300 tackles on his resume.
