While the Pats took a bit of a gamble by not signing wide receiver Randy Moss to the franchise tag before last weeks deadline, it looks as if all is well, as sources are reporting that Moss is on the verge of signing with the AFC Champs. According to AOL Sports, Moss is set to sign a three-year, $30 million dollar deal to stay in New England.
Numerous sources reported that even though he could have become a free agent Friday, Moss was never interested in going on the open market, and that he wanted to stay in New England all along and make life tough for defenses along with running mate Tom Brady. Moss’ new deal cannot become official until Thursday at midnight, but at that time look for the announcement to come down the pike that he’ll be staying put.
Moss played in all 16 games plus the Pats three playoff games, and he was a big reason why the team had an undefeated season and made it to Super Bowl XLII before losing to the Giants. He pulled in 98 passes for 1493 yards and an NFL record 23 touchdowns. Moss would be a fool to leave the situation he has in New England, and for once the former Vikings first-round pick back in 1998 looks as if he’s going to do the right thing and simply stay put.
