Former Player: Pats Have Been Videotaping For Years

The scandal surrounding the New England Patriots’ video taping practices continues to grow larger and larger. The “New York Times” reports a new allegation has come to light, saying the team began videotaping opposing teams as early as the 2000 preseason, head coach Bill Belichick’s first with the team. A former Patriots player says videotape of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defensive signal-calling was used in preparation for the opening game of the 2000 season between the two teams.

The Patriots went on to lose that game, but have been accused of similarly taping the St. Louis Rams in preparation for the 2002 Super Bowl, which the Patriots won. Belichick has denied taping the Rams that year. The Pats were caught inappropriately taping the New York Jets during the 2007 season opener. The league reacted by fining the team and Belichick and taking away the team’s first round draft pick in the upcoming draft.
