Falcons Waive Crumpler, Coleman

It is becoming increasingly clear that the Atlanta Falcons are conducting a total team makeover; according to SportsTicker, the team on Friday released two well-known Falcons - tight end Alge Crumpler and defensive tackle Rod Coleman; in addition, the Falcons released quarterback Byron Leftwich, who signed with the team last offseason. They also released offensive tackle Wayne Gandy, cornerback Lewis Sanders, wide receiver Jamin Elliott and linebacker Marcus Wilkins.

Crumpler, a Pro Bowl participant from 2003-06, had 42 receptions for 444 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2007, compared to 56 and 780 and 8 scores in 2006; Coleman made the Pro Bowl in 2005, but had only 7 tackles in an injury-plagued 2007 campaign. I am surprised that the Falcons let Crumpler go as he was the main target for the team and it isn’t like he wasn’t productive during his career there. I truly expect the Falcons to further purge their roster to maximize ther salary-cap relief - could running back Warrick Dunn be next?

    WHAT A SURPRISE!!! MAN, my team better start calling these guys agents (not leftwhich)! Baltimore should call leftwhich.

    I think Dunn deserves a new home where he can play second back to an experienced back rather than young Norwood. Plus, he’s done so much for the American communities and Atlanta!
