Ocho Cinco To Sit Out 2008 Season?

It’s pretty much common knowledge that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson is unhappy in his current situation. Now you can add a new development to Johnson’s unhappiness - according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN and verified by a source, Johnson thinks that he is being betrayed by team head coach Marvin Lewis and is privately threatening to sit out the entire 2008 season. The source also states that Johnson was upset that Lewis had quit speaking to him early in the season.

Johnson this week has been making the rounds with the media at the Super Bowl; when he was asked on Jim Rome’s radio program this week about whether or not he was happy in Cincinnati, Johnson sounded less than happy, telling Rome, “I’m not allowed to say. I get the blame; the so-called best player, I’m the problem. Someone in-house is spreading this. Maybe they want me to quiet down [and] stop being me. That is not going to happen. I can’t function that way. I tried it. It sucked. There was no excitement.”

Lewis has said from the beginning of this debacle that he won’t trade Johnson; adding fuel to the fire are comments from Johnson’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who told the Cincinnati Enquirer, “Obviously, there is a lot of frustration with things that happened last year as it pertains to Chad. What Chad is doing [in the radio interviews] is expressing his emotions and frustration.” I have no idea what is eating at Johnson, but obviously there is more to it than is being alluded to. But at the same time, Johnson’s diva tactics aren’t exactly helping him in this matter, either. I doubt that the Bengals will trade Johnson, and the team and he will somehow resolve this “situation”.
