Mooch Scratching The Coaching Itch?
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under NFL

Does he or doesn’t he? No one seems to know for sure, but according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, former San Francisco 49ers/Detroit Lions head coach/current NFL Network broadcaster Steve Mariucci refuses to confirm or deny rumors that there are talks going on now or in the future with the Washington Redskins regarding their vacant head coaching position.
What is somewhat certain is that Mariucci is jonesing to return to the sidelines and admitted as much on Tuesday, having been away from the football field for 2 years. Mariucci has said that he would make all of his decisions with his family - with his family in mind; in other words, if his family is all for it, then the Mariucci sweepstakes begin. There appear to be subtle hints that that it could be happening in Washington as Mooch has been calling around to some assistant coaches, and gauging their interest in joining him once he has been hired.
Another factor - Mariucci’s contract with the Lions has expired; Mooch claims that he enjoys working for NFL Network, yet he enjoys coaching even more. The way that current events are shaping up, it may be a matter of “when” he is a head coach in the NFL, as opposed to “if” he is a head coach.
