Ireland the New GM in Miami; Sparano Set to Interview in Atlanta

Bill Parcells went to work quickly after becoming head of football operations in Miami. His first oder of business was to Ireland fire the GM, Randy Mueller. Bill Parcells has had a tendency over the years of hiring those he have worked with through the years, and his latest decision was no exception. On January second, Miami’s first hire of the new year would be Jeff Ireland.

Jeff Ireland has spent the last 7 years as the Dallas Cowboys’ scouting director. Jerry Jones had hopes of keeping Ireland around until after the draft, but didn’t want to hinder Ireland’s chances at a promotion.

“Everyone is aware that I ultimately could’ve said, ‘Look, Bill is making the decisions out there’ and I could’ve put this off until after the draft,” Jones said. “I didn’t want Jeff to lose his opportunity. I didn’t want to do that.”

On Friday two members of the Dallas Cowboys staff are expected to interview for the Head Coaching job in Atlanta. Both Jason Garrett and Tony Sparano have been getting a lot of recognition around the league for their work on the Dallas Cowboys’ offense. NFL rules state that Playoff teams’ coaches can only be interviewed during the bye weeks before the playoffs. With little time left in the bye week, Atlanta will be interviewing Garrett and Sparano in Dallas on Friday knowing they may not get another chance for three weeks.

Garrett came to the Cowboys last year prior to signing Wade Phillips as the head coach. The move brings many to believe that Garrett is being groomed by Jerry Jones to be a future head coach for the Dallas Cowboys. Undoubtedly, Jerry Jones will be hoping that another team will not beat him to it.
