Week 17 Preview: Kansas City at New York Jets

Two teams that have had awful seasons will try to wrap up on a high note Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs travel to the Meadowlands to take on the New York Jets.  It’s the return to New York for current Chiefs coach Herm Edwards, who left the team two seasons ago to move to the Chiefs after Dick Vermeil retired.  Edwards had five seasons in New York, and had just wrapped up a 4-12 season when he hightailed it to KC.

Now his Chiefs, with a loss Sunday, will have the very same 4-12 record as his Jets team did two seasons ago, and the team seems a far cry from the same one that gave the Colts a game in the playoffs last season.  They started the season 2-2, but since then have gone 2-9, and have not won a game since beating Oakland back on October 21st.  They have a stale offense (29th in the league) and the defense has some bright spots, but have allowed 20 or more points in their last five games.

Not that the Jets are all that much better.  They have won just three games this year, two of them against the one-win Dolphins.  They too have had plenty of struggles on offense, ranked 27th in the league putting up 291.9 yards per game.  Their defense though is ranked 22nd, and they have been unable to get off the field in key situations.  Last week they had a shot vs the Titans, but the offense was held to six points in a 10-6 loss in Tennessee.

With that, both teams will play all out in order to try and end the season on an up note.  With both teams trying to break losing streaks, they will throw out all the stops, as plenty of players will be playing for 2008 roster spots.  Look for the Jets, who want to prove they are much more like the 2006 version, to come out with a win in front of the home fans.
