At this rate, the shelf life of the Romeo Crennel to Dolphins rumor will be longer than a can of government commodities. According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel was asked about a report yesterday on ProFootballTalk.com (and posted here yesterday; click here for entire story) stating that Crennel was Dolphins VP Bill Parcells’ top choice as the next head coach of the Dolphins; Crennel told the Plain Dealer, “I haven’t heard it and rumors are rumors. Everybody has their opinion on that. I haven’t heard anything about that.”
Crennel further added, “I’ve got a contract with the Browns and over my tenure in the NFL, I’ve always honored my contract.” As I had mentioned yesterday, this would be a good hire for Miami, assuming they could get Crennel. But again, they have to deal with the issue of compensation. And Crennel has 2 years left on his current contract, so it’s not as simple as it seems. But Crennel and Parcells have a history together – Crennel worked under Parcells with the New York Giants, New York Jets and New England Patriots and won 2 Super Bowls with him. This should get more interesting as time goes by, so stay tuned.
