Site Editor Matt Loede’s NFL Pick for Thursday’s Week 16 Game
Posted by Matt Loede under Picks, Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis Rams

On the heels of their first two-game losing streak in 2007, the Pittsburgh Steelers will look to get back on the winning track Thursday night when they travel to St.Louis to take on the Rams. The Steelers have played two bad games, losing badly to the undefeated Pats, and then allowing over 400 yards last week in a loss to the Jags. This week they have a shot to get back to 10-5, and grab a shot in the AFC Playoffs. As far as the Rams go, they are 3-11 and will try to get set for watching the playoffs from their couch.
The Steelers have lost to three teams under .500, the Jets, Broncos and Cardinals, so beating the Rams is by no means a sure thing. But, unlike early in the year when those other teams (Denver and Arizona at least), were playing better, the Rams have gotten worse as the games have gone on. They have been outscored 217-76 in the second half of games this year, clearly giving the Steelers with their running game the advantage.
Look for Pittsburgh to try and get an early lead, jumping on the Rams 27th ranked scoring defense, allowing 24.9 points per game. They should be able to run quite a bit, use the TE’s and WR’s to make plays, and as long as the offensive line can give Ben Roethlisberger some time, they should walk away with a win. As for the Rams, to pull the upset they need some big plays, turnovers and have to avoid mistakes. Can’t see it against a Steelers team that needs a win bad. Pittsburgh 27 St.Louis 17
