Browns OT Thomas Selected NFL Rookie Of the Month

I would guess it isn’t too surprising that because the Cleveland Browns are experiencing success on the football field, that the awards would follow. According to Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon-Journal, Cleveland Browns offensive tackle was selected as the NFL rookie of the month on Thursday. Thomas is the first Brown to be selected since Browns QB Tim Couch in October 1999.

In a way it is surprising, but really for the most part it isn’t. The fact that Cleveland is ranked #4 in the NFL, scoring 28 points per game and ranked #6, averaging 353.5 yards per game is a testament to the vast improvement of the Browns’ offensive line as opposed to years past. I wouldn’t be surprised if Thomas gets some Rookie Of the Year consideration, but he has a couple players ahead of him – Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and perhaps San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis. Which is unfortunate, since offensive lineman are as responsible for an offensive player’s success as the offensive player is. But at his current progression, he could turn out to be one of the best at his position.
