Feeley

The Philadelphia Eagles came close to pulling off a shocker Sunday night in New England when they almost topped the mighty Pats.  They did it with A.J. Feeley as their starting QB.  Despite the game that Feeley had and the end result of the near upset, Eagles coach Andy Reid seems bent on going back to Donovan McNabb as soon as the vet is healthy enough again to get under center.  Wednesday Reid told the media that Donovan’s injured ankle and thumb is getting better, but his status for Sunday is still up in the air.

“I feel a lot closer,” McNabb said Wednesday. “But you have to be smart about the whole situation.”  McNabb’s ankle is the bigger of the two injuries, and after practice on Wedndsay is was tender and swollen.  Feeley would again get the start if McNabb can’t go vs Seahawks at home, and many Eagles fans are speaking out that Feeley deserves another shot to start.  Against the Pats last week in his first start in years, Feeley had career bests in completions (27) and yards (345) and matched his career high with three TD passes.

The tone right now with the Eagles faithful is that McNabb’s time as their starting QB is drawing to a close, and it’s time to start thinking about the future.  Feeley seemed more under control against New England on Sunday, and while McNabb’s numbers this season remain good, he has been unable to generate the type of offense the Eagles need in order to be a contender in the NFC East.  Feeley should get another start, but if McNabb’s ready to go, Reid will not hesitate to throw him back in there.
