Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor
An unfortunate turn of events took place early Monday morning; Matt Sedensky of the Associated Press is reporting that Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor was shot at his Florida home and is currently in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Taylor was airlifted to the hospital around 1:45 AM Monday morning, according to Miami police detective Alvaro Zabaleta; he further added that it is unknown what part of the body Taylor was injured.

Taylor is no stranger to scrapes with the law; in 2005, Taylor was accused of brandishing a firearm at a man and repeatedly striking him during a fight. Taylor reached a deal with prosecutors last year after they agreed to drop charges against him. He pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor counts in the assault case and was sentenced to 18 months probation. He was also fined by the National Football League.

Redskins players and coaches have been quick to defend Taylor, characterizing him as smart yet understood. They also say that he kept to himself, and has matured, especially since he became a father for the first time this past year. NFL GRIDIRON GAB will keep you posted on any late-breaking developments in the Taylor shooting and as always, we will keep him in our thoughts and prayers in the hopes that he recovers fully from his wounds.
