Braylon Edwards goes for a catch early vs Houston

In a game that was expected to be a bit more high scoring, the Cleveland Browns kept their push to the playoffs full steam ahead with a key 27-17 win over the Houston Texans at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Texans had their chances, and led early 7-0 and 10-7, but then Browns QB Derek Anderson came alive, hitting two second quarter TD’s and the Browns defense took over, holding the Texans down to secure their 7th win against four losses.

The loss breaks a two-game winning streak for the Texans, who just did not have the firepower on offense they showed last week at home against the Saints. QB Matt Schaub went 22-for-36 for 256 yards with two TD’s and two picks. Ahman Green sat once again, leaving the bulk of the carries to Ron Dayne, who rushed for 78 yards on 16 carries. Owen Daniels led the team in receiving with 7 catches for 82 yards and a score.

The Browns again showed resolve at home, as they did not play all that well early, and easily could have been in trouble if they didn’t rally for that big second quarter. After a slow start, Anderson went 24-for-35 for 253 yards with 2 scores and a pick. Jamal Lewis ran for 134 yards on 29 carries and a score, and tight end Kellen Winslow pulled in 10 passes for 107 yards and a score.

Cleveland gained its first lead when Winslow pulled in a 7-yard score with just 16 seconds left in the first half. They added on the lead with a Phil Dawson 25-yard field goal in the third quarter, and then in the fourth it was Dawson again with a 27-yard score to make it 20-10 with 8:32 left. Schaub hit Daniels with a six-yard TD with 3:12 to go to make it 27-17.

The Browns will be on the road for their next two starting next Sunday as they travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. The Texans (5-6) will travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans in a huge AFC South matchup.
