Dolphins’ Williams to play Monday night?

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky WilliamsThe depth chart seems to suggest it happening. Even the raw number of running backs who actually participated in a full practice suggest it. But according to David J. Neal of the Miami Herald, it appears that the Miami Dolphins don’t have a “Plan A-Plan B” scenario drawn up in reference to who will start at running back this Monday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The incumbent, Jesse Chatman, is limping noticeably on his right ankle and is obviously limited in practice. That pretty much leaves Patrick Cobbs – who has eleven carries in his career – and Williams as the RB’s of record. But the big issue is team head coach Cam Cameron’s “game-speak”. When asked about Chatman’s ankle, Cameron told the Herald, “It can come a long way by [Saturday]. We have a significant practice [Saturday] and a walk-through on Sunday, so we’ve still got some time.”

Earth to Cameron – if Chatman is limping like he is right now, I seriously doubt he will be available to you on Monday. Besides, if Williams is taking the vast majority of first-team snaps during practice, that should make your decision making process that much easier. And that’s not a knock on Cobbs whatsoever. If Cobbs was getting the first-team snaps, the same would be said about him. But since that isn’t the case, you’re drawing this scenario out far longer than is necessary.
