No doubt in response to numerous complaints by NFL players and possibly others, according to Alan Robinson of the Associated Press, the turf currently in place at Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be replaced with a new grass playing field in time for the Monday night game between the Steelers and Miami Dolphins. But the makeover will have to wait until four high school football games and the South Florida-Pitt game are completed over the weekend.
The new sod will remain in place for the balance of the season. After this weekend, the only games tentatively scheduled to be played at Heinz Field are Steelers’ home games on December 2 and December 16, although it is possible that Steeler playoff games could take place there in January 2008. Currently, the turf on Heinz Field consists of a hybrid surface, consisting of mostly natural grass, interwoven with plastic fibers known as DD Grassmaster .
