NFL Winners and Losers – Week 11

Harrington part of the QB mixup in the ATL

Another wild week around the National Football League as teams continue to try and set themselves up for playoff spots and others start looking ahead to 2008.  With that, here is a quick look at our winners and losers for week 11 around the NFL.

Winner:
——–

Terrell Owens – T.O. showed once again Sunday that he is still a premiere player in the National Football League, and his four TD’s and 173 yards was just what the doctor ordered against a pesky Redskins team that never gave in.  Once the Skins went from man to zone coverage, T.O. was as open as he could be, and his pal Tony Romo found him each and everytime.

Losers:
——-

The Chargers Defense – Zero sacks, zero turnovers Sunday in a 24-17 loss to the Jags in what was a winnable game in Jacksonville.  What has happened to this unit?  Sunday they missed tackles, and their D-line was pushed around by a good, but not exactly great Jacksonville offensive line.  On a day when they could have used a big play from the defense, they were as quiet as a a mouse.

Winner:
——–

Chester Taylor – The forgotten man in the Vikings offense with the emergence of rookie running back Adrian Peterson, Taylor got his shot Sunday vs Oakland, and ran all over them for 164 yards and three scores.  Taylor has the ability to be a very solid back in this league still, and the Vikings may want to look at getting him more touches even when Peterson returned.

Losers:
——-

The Steelers – After three very hard fought and emotional wins over AFC North teams, the Steelers must have been reading their press clippings this week from the national media telling them how great they are again.  Against the lowly Jets Sunday, they totally failed to show up, and laid possibly the biggest egg of the season 19-16 in overtime.  The offense was flat, the defense missed tons of tackles, and once again, the special teams allowed a big return of a punt that led to the game-winning field goal.  I guess the Colts and Pats are the best two teams in the conference after all.

Winner:
——–

Phil Dawson – From the worst of times, to the best of times.  That’s the way to describe the 10 minutes Sunday when it appeared that Dawson had once again missed a 51-yard field goal that would have tied the game at 30 vs the Ravens.  The ball took two bounces, then looked like it came out.  Thing was, the ball actually did hit inside the curved part of the crossbar, making it a good kick.  The refs got it right, and then in OT Dawson’s much shorter 33-yard kick was the difference in a game the Browns had to have.

Loser:
——-

Bobby Petrino – The Falcons had won two straight, but in typical fashion for a team heading nowhere fast, the Falcons coach pulled the winner of those two games at QB,  Joey Harrington, and started confused Byron Leftwich.  The move didn’t sit well with Harrington, or many of the Falcons, who at 3-6 at the time couldn’t make sense of the decision.  Leftwich was awful, Harrington was okay at best, and the Falcons lost by 24.
