Eagles Lose McNabb, Beat Dolphins 17-7
Posted by Matt Loede under Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles never seem to make things easy. Sunday at home against the winless Miami Dolphins, they lost starting QB Donovan McNabb to an ankle injury, yet despite trailing 7-0 in the second quarter were able to put together enough to improve to 5-5 with a 17-7 win. The Dolphins, who were starting rookie QB John Beck, were inept as usual on offense, only able to manage 182 net yards, with Beck having a first tough outing going just 8-for-21 for 105 yards. He and the team were only able to manage 9 first downs.
The Eagles took over trailing 7-3 at the half, and in the third quarter put together a solid drive to start the half, as they drove 72 yards in 8 plays with A.J. Feeley completing three passes and Cornell Buckhalter wrapping up the drive with an 8-yard run to put the Eagles ahead to stay 10-7. With the Dolphins unable to move on offense, they Eagles defese took over, forcing pressure on Beck, and Jesse Chatman having to carry the load. Chatman’s rushing took the ball to the Eagles 45 before they were forced to punt. It was about the last hurrah for Miami’s ugly offense.
The final TD drive saw the Eagles go from their own 24 down to the Miami four, when Feeley hit Jason Avant with a score to put the game out of reach. Feeley ended the game 13-of-19 for 116 yards with one score and a pick. He will likely the be answer while McNabb may be out of the lineup, which remains to be seen. Brian Westbrook continued his trek to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, as he had 148 yards on 32 carries.
The only bright spot for Miami came from first-round draft pick Ted Ginn Jr., who took back a punt 87 yards for the Fins only score of the contest. They were just 2-of-11 on third down, and were only able to hold the ball for 25:11 as compared to 34:49 for the Eagles. The 0-10 Dolphins will try again next week to get into the win column, as they will travel to Pittsburgh for a Monday night game on 11/26. The Eagles will play Sunday night at undefeated New England at 8:15 on 11/25.
