Grossman, Bears together in 2008?
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Chicago Bears

Although it is speculative in nature, there is – depending on how the Chicago Bears fare in the remaining seven games left on their schedule – the outside chance that quarterback Rex Grossman may return to the team for the 2008 season. But according to Grossman, as he told Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times, ”I’ve probably missed the boat on the big one. I’m just going to go have fun.” Whatever that’s supposed to mean.
Grossman, the 22nd pick in the 2003 draft, effective March 1, 2008, will be an unrestricted free agent. On that alone, the Bears have at least one key personnel decision to make – at QB. As of right now, they have Grossman and reserves Brian Griese and Kyle Orton. The argument for Grossman is that he was injured through some of the time he has been with the ballclub and didn’t get a true chance to grow at the position.
But at the same time, for the time he has been out performing on the field, his inconsistent play may give the team pause before signing Grossman to any kind of contract in 2008. That’s where the 7-game window comes in – kind of a “put up or shut up” kind of proposition. I think it is a foregone conclusion that Griese will be out of Chicago after this season; that in effect, would elevate Orton to the second-string QB.
It is entirely possible that Orton would stand to gain (or possibly lose) the most of what the Bears decide to do with Grossman. Orton hasn’t really had a chance to develop under the current system the Bears have in place, so in that respect, he is in limbo. In the grand scheme of things, I wouldn’t be surprised of the Bears sign Grossman to a 1-year, incentive-laden contract, keep Orton (in the hopes that he may be the QB of their future), and probably draft a QB during the 2008 draft. The other positions will take care of themselves; it is at quarterback where the team has suffered the most (remember last year’s Super Bowl?).

yes, i think Grossman will start for the bears because now that we have Chris Williams, the pressure wont be in his face all the time… so all of you who think he sucks… your the ones that really suck…big things, too, nobody can handle that much pressure…no matter how good you are….
