Atlanta Falcons linebacker Keith BrookingIn what appears to be a case of a “personal trainer” trying to take a team down with him, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, several prominent Atlanta Falcons players are denying any association with one David Jacobs, a personal trainer from the Dallas, TX area. Jacobs claimed that he had connections to both the Falcons and Dallas Cowboys. Jacobs, coincidentally or not, plead guilty to a federal charge of conspiring to distribute anabolic steroids on Tuesday.

As previously noted, several Falcons deny the accusations by Jacobs; Falcons center Todd McClure told the J-C, “No comment on that one. I don’t know anything about that and I don’t really care to comment on it. Sorry. Me, personally, I don’t even take any supplements. I never have really thought about it. I just lift weights and do it the natural way.”

Add Falcons guard Tyson Clabo and linebacker Keith Brooking to the grouping, with Clabo adding, “I might take some vitamins.” Brooking told the J-C, “As far as this guy in Texas and being involved with this team, I don’t have any clue. I think our steroid policy in the NFL is better than any sport across America. You walk in the door and you do not know it’s coming.”

Although Jacobs is a minor player in the steroid distribution game, it is important to note that the Atlanta players of record, in my opinion - because they spoke out immediately - should at least for right now be given the benefit of the doubt. For all the players currently in the NFL who have in fact taken steroids, the vast majority of players have not; that is why I submit that there shouldn’t be a rush to judgement. Facts do and eventually will come out regarding any involvement with this Jacobs guy by these Falcons players.
