Ricky Williams reinstated by NFL
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Miami Dolphins, NFL, Off The Field News

I guess this isn’t a total shock or surprise to anyone who has followed the doings of Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the National Football League, namely Commissioner Roger Goodell, has decided to reinstate Williams after a suspension that lasted eighteen months because of Williams’ violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
The Dolphins, as per protocol, were notified of the reinstatement of Williams. It is unclear whether the team will in fact welcome him back. They have 2 weeks to make that decision in the form of a 2-week roster exemption. Last week, Williams met with league administrators who raised concerns although doctors at a Boston, MA-area treatment center where Williams spent a good portion of 4 months were very supportive of his reinstatement.
In addition, Williams wrote a personal letter of appeal that came with the medical data regarding his treatment ever since he registered a positive test back in April 2007. While I am glad for Williams’ steps to become a clean and sober person, the very real chance for a relapse is out there. And that is something that either the Dolphins, should they decide to keep him, or any other team that decides to take a chance on him. all I can say is much good luck to Williams on his continued sobriety and good luck to the team that takes a chance on him.
