NFL Winners and Losers – Week 10

Adam Vinatieri walks the sidelines after missing a 29 yard field goal

It was a wild week in the NFL, and with it there were plenty of big name players and big time performances. Here below are our winners and losers for week 10 of the NFL.

Winner
———

Ben Roethlisberger Steelers – The man known as “Big Ben” took over the game Sunday and was the major force in the teams 31-28 win over the Browns. Roethlisberger threw for two scores, but more importantly ran for a 30-yard score and then ran for a huge third down on the teams final drive. No doubt that Ben is playing at a Pro Bowl level, unlike what was a nightmare season for him in 2006.

Losers
——

New Orleans Saints – After the NFL world jumped on their bandwagon after they won four straight, they went out at home Sunday and laid an egg to a team that not won a game all season – the Rams. The secondary allowed Marc Bulger to have a big day, and Drew Brees played his worst game in four weeks, throwing two picks. The Saints blew a great chance to move further up in the NFC South.

Winner
——–

The Packers Defense – Green Bay had to hear all week about the great things Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had been doing, and Sunday they shut him and the Vikings next to nothing. Peterson, before he got hurt, rushed for just 45 yards. The Vikings as a whole had just 247 yards on the afternoon, and held the ball for just 19:20. Their game coming up with the Cowboys should be a classic.

Loser
——

Steve McNair Ravens – As great as McNair was a few years back, he’s just a shadow of himself. Sunday against a team that has been giving up huge amounts of yards in the Bengals, he was just 17-for-26 for 128 yards with no scores and a pick. His inability to throw the ball down the field is killing any shot the Ravens have at making the playoffs, and the injuries on the O-line have not helped. Face it, it’s time to sit McNair.

Winner
——–

Darren Sproles Chargers – The Chargers kick returner was accountable for 12 points with two kickoff returns for scores in last night’s huge 23-21 win over the Colts at home. Sproles was an instant spark, taking back the opening kickoff for a score, then a punt back for a score later in the quarter. The Chargers did enough to squeak out a win, but they would not have done it without the big night from Sproles.

Loser
——-

Adam Vinatieri Colts – The Indy kicker had a shot to put the Colts up with 1:31 left, and missed a chip-shot 29-yard attempt. Hard to put him in this spot for all the clutch kicks he’s made over the years, but this was a big kick in a big game that the Colts needed. Indy had better be careful as with the loss they are now tied for the #2 seed with the Steelers. Yes, they have lost to two good teams, but this is one that Vinatieri should have made, and the Colts should have had.
