Denver Broncos linebacker Nate Webster (58) recovers a fumble and runs it into the end zone for a touchdown during the third quarter of the Denver Broncos-Kansas City Chiefs game played on Sunday. Denver beat Kansas City 27-11.
It is acknowledged that the Denver Broncos have been depleted by injuries as of late. But on Sunday afternoon, the Broncos put in a supreme effort; Denver running back Selvin Young rushed for a touchdown, quarterback Jay Cutler threw for a TD and the Broncos defense even scored a TD as the Broncos annihilated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-11 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

Very little went right for the Chiefs; QB Damon Huard was replaced by Brodie Croyle, in part to inefficiency, but mainly because Huard was injured. Huard was steamrolled by Denver defensive end Elvis Dumervil; the end result was a neck injury for Huard. But mostly, it was total Denver domination throughout the game. Denver kicker Jason Elam started the scoring with a 44-yard field goal then Chiefs kicker Dave Rayner returned the favor in kind with a 38-yarder of his own, tying the score.

Safety Bernard Pollard blocked Denver punter Todd Sauerbrun’s punt through the end zone for a safety just a few seconds into the 2nd quarter. Denver’s Elam then kicked a 50-yard FG, making the score 6-5 Denver. In the 3rd quarter, Denver cornerback Dre Bly intercepted a pass by Huard, which would set up a TD run by Broncos RB Selvin Young, who is starting in place of an injured Travis Henry. This would be the series that sealed the win for Denver.

Cutler had a so-so outing; he went 17-for-29 for 192 yards with a TD and an INT. Young led all Denver rushers with 109 yards on 20 carries and a TD. WR Brandon Marshall led Broncos receivers with 6 receptions for 85 yards; tight end Daniel Graham added a TD reception, as well. Kansas City got a subpar performance by Croyle; he went 17-for-30 for 162 yards with an INT. RB Priest Holmes led Chiefs rushers with 65 yards; he was subbing for Larry Johnson, who is out with a foot injury. WR Dwayne Bowe led all Chiefs receivers with 105 yards in receiving yardage. Denver (4-5) play again next Monday night when they host the Tennessee Titans while Kansas City, also 4-5, flies to Indianapolis to face the Super Bowl champion Colts next Sunday.
