Bulger, Holt lead Rams to first win of season, upset Saints 37-29
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams

At long last, St. Louis Rams fans had something to celebrate, especially on Saturday afternoon. Rams quarterback Marc Bulger and wide receivers Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce found some of that “Greatest Show On Turf” magic in New Orleans; Bulger threw 2 touchdowns and running back Steven Jackson ran for a touhdown as St. Louis won their first game of the year, upsetting the New Orleans Saints 37-29.
The Rams’ defense even kicked it up a notch, as they harrassed Saints QB Drew Brees by intercepting 2 of his passes. But it was the Rams’ offense that was clicking on all cylinders; St. Louis converted on 8-of-11 third down attempts through the first 3 quarters. St. Louis was led by Bulger, who went 27-for-33 for 302 yards and 2 TD’s; the aforementioned Jackson led Rams’ rushers with 76 yards and a TD. Holt led all Rams receivers with 124 yards in receving; Bruce caught 4 balls for 63 yards and a TD and tight end Randy McMichael and WR Drew Bennett caught a TD pass each.
New Orleans’ Brees went 25-for-36 for 272 yards – a lot of the yardage coming late when the Saints had to use the “no-huddle” offense; he also threw 2 INT’s. WR Marques led all Saints receivers with 126 yards receiving; TE Eric Johnson caught 3 balls for 28 yards and a TD. St. Louis (1-8) hope to carry momentum into next week, when they fly west to San Francisco to face the 49ers next Sunday. New Orleans (4-5), whose division title aspirations took a hit, go west to play the Houston Texans, also next Sunday afternoon.
