Packers rally late to nip Chiefs 33-22

Add to the legend of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. Not only did he rally Green Bay to a 33-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, he added his name to the very short list of QB’s who have defeated every NFL team – New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning being the other two.

After Chiefs cornerback Benny Sapp’s interception of a Favre pass in the final seconds of the first half, running back Larry Johnson scored on a 1-yard run for a 7-6 Kansas City lead. Green Bay wide receiver Greg Jennings gave the Packers a 13-7 lead on the last play of the 3rd quarter when he caught a TD pass from Favre. The Chiefs had a 22-16 lead with 5:18 left in the game on QB Damon Huard’s 17-yard TD pass to tight end Tony Gonzalez and a 2-point conversion by RB Priest Holmes, who was a late replacement when Johnson had injured his ankle a few minutes earlier.

Packers kicker Mason Crosby made a 45-yard FG – his 4th this game – and with 45 seconds left, cornerback Charles Woodson intercepted a Huard pass and returned it for a score whicxh made the game academic at this point. Green Bay was led by Favre, who went 24-of-34 for 360 yards with 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s; WR’s Donald Driver and Greg Jennings combined for 184 yards and a TD. The Chiefs’ Huard had an OK outing, going 19-for-32 for 213 yards, with 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s, with TE Gonzalez adding 10 catches for 109 yards and a TD. Green Bay (7-1) will next face the Minnesota Vikings in a NFC North matchup next Sunday, while Kansas City (4-4) will host the Denver Broncos, also next Sunday.
