Did Kitna’s Costume Cross the Line?
Posted by Matt Loede under Detroit Lions, Off The Field News
While the world awaits the game of the year on Sunday between the Pats and Colts, the buzz around the league seems to be if Lions QB Jon Kitna went too far in taking a jab at Lions assistant D-line coach Joe Cullen. Kitna and his wife dressed up for a Halloween party Monday as a naked man and a drive-through worker, basically recreating a scene in August of 06 when Cullen drove through a Wendy’s drive-though naked. Now, three days later, Kitna is thinking twice about his actions after backlash from local TV and newspaper reporters.
“If I would’ve known this, I wouldn’t have done it because I didn’t want to try to bring attention to it,” Kitna said Wednesday. “All I was trying to do was wear a costume that people would have fun with,” Kitna said. “I wasn’t trying to demean Joe. If he hadn’t come so far, I would not ever have done it. He’s very confident of who he is and is very peaceful about what’s happened in the past. When we talked yesterday, the first question out of his mouth was, `Did you win?’ He seemed to not have a problem with it.”
So did Kitna take the prank too far? I guess it goes back to Cullen, who the prank was on in the first place. The coach released a statement stating that the costume didn’t bother him, and like stated above, he even reportedly joked with Kitna about it. While it was not in the best interest of Kitna to do it, nor his wife, it seems that a lot is being made out of a situation that is being blown up by the local media in Detroit.
Hindsight being what it is, I am sure that Kitna will choose his Halloween outfits rather carefully after this event. Being a born- again Christian, the QB should have been a lot smarter about the situation in the first place, and maybe shown the ultimate example and not even shown up at the gathering. As for Cullen, he should be applauded for not taking a shot back at the QB, and for turning his life around after the humbling incident last August.

Haha that’s all good fun, too bad the press wen’t took the wrong route on it in Det. That’s hilarious, props to Kitna.
Bad taste for certain; however, since Cullen had no problem with the costume, Kitna gets a pass. Hopefully, he will think twice on his costume choices in the future.
