Turnovers, strong defense propel Baltimore over St. Louis 22-3

Maybe the Baltimore Ravens have regained their swagger back, after all. A swarming defense forced the St. Louis Rams’ offense into six turnovers and kicker Matt Stover kicked 5 field goals as the Ravens improved to 4-2 with a 22-3 win over the Rams. Kyle Boller started at quarterback for the Ravens as Steve McNair was laid up with back issues.

The Rams had a multitude of problems; of the aforementioned 6 turnovers committed by the team, 5 were interceptions by Rams reserve QB Gus Frerotte. As a result of the loss, the Rams are 0-6; the last time the Rams were 0-6 was back in 1962 when the team was in Los Angeles. Stover got the scoring started with a 43-yard FG giving the Ravens a 3-0 lead late first quarter. On the Rams’ next possesion, defensive tackle Dwan Edwards intercepted a Frerotte pass off that ricocheted off of Rams WR Drew Bennett’s hands. Bennett left shortly thereafter with a hamstring injury.

That interception set up another FG by Stover, making it a 6-0 lead that Baltimore would not relinquish. Frerotte finished the game 19-of-36 for 208 yards and 5 interceptions; running back Travis Minor led all Rams rushers with 40 yards while wide receiver Marques Hagans led the Rams with 74 yards on 5 receptions. Ravens QB Kyle Boller was mediocre, going 18-for-30 for 184 yards and an INT; RB Willis McGahee had a subpar day with 25 carries for 61 yards with a TD. The 5 interceptions by the Ravens is a team record. The victorious Ravens next go to Buffalo (1-4) to face the Bills while the winless Rams fly to Seattle to face the 3-2 Seahawks.
