Patriots Catch Second Wind In The Third Qtr. Beat Dallas 48-27
Posted by Jeff Sack under Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots
For the first time in the 2007 NFL regular season, the New England Patriots trailed their opponents relatively late in the game. New England who had simply dominated the undefeated Dallas Cowboys in the first quarter ending it 14-0, had to feel some trepidation as they walked into the locker room at the half only up by 4 at 21-17.
And then the moment actually came to pass that New England fell behind Dallas as the Cowboys wild stallion of a QB Tony Romo threw an 8 yard touchdown pass to Patrick Crayton, and after Nick Folk kicked the point after Dallas led New England 24-21 at the 10:20 mark of the third quarter. New England who was also 5-0 coming into the contest faced their first serious challenge of the campaign. They responded like they have to adversity all year long, with focus, intensity, and a machine like drive.
New England outscored Dallas the rest of the contest 27-3, and easily won the game to remain unbeaten at now 6-0. Brady, had the best game of his NFL career throwing for a career high five touchdowns. The man with the laser like intensity registering on his face when ever he has been on the field this season went 31/46 yards, for a total of 388 yards. And the scary thing is he just keeps getting better each and every game! One moment during the second quarter may have showed Brady at his analytical best. The Patriots were at fourth down and inches and the officials put down the chains to measure the distance one official separating his hands to show the two teams the difference between where the ball was being marked and where the first down was. Brady was shown on camera glaring down his eyes shaded by his helmet his hands aping the officials his expression looking like Arnold in the “Terminator.” Naturally Brady went for it, and naturally they got the first. Brady appeared to be looking at the game almost as an objective observer, not like his young counterpart who’s eyes were as wide as a deer’s all game. The Patriots receiving crew again shared the wealth, two TD receptions by Wes Welker, and one each by Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, and Kyle Brady.
Romo again showed that he is a diamond in the rough an unfinished product with a huge upside. He threw 18/29 for 199 yards with 2 touchdowns and a costly interception. As I said in my Picks Column this week Dallas has far surpassed my expectations for this year so far. They showed Sunday that they can play with the Patriots, and there is a very good possibility that these two teams could face each other again in the Super Bowl. But Dallas also showed on Sunday, that they still have a way to go before they can beat them.

Was that tackle of Watson done by Williamson the banned “Williamson collar”? By Belichick’s response it seemed like it. It was banned in 2005 because of the injuries Roy Williamson was doing to the offensive players. I hope he didn’t injure Watson badly. I know he has been fined twice so far this season for such plays. Why is more not made of this?
