Fisher, Titans agree on extension

Jeff Fisher, Tennessee Titans head coachIt appears that there will be some continuity in Tennessee until well into the next decade. According to the Tennessean and SportsTicker, Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher and the team have agreed in principle to a four-year extension, which will keep Fisher in Nashville until the 2011 season.

Sources familiar with the negotiations, the Tennessean also reports that Fisher will receive an average salary range between $5.5 and $6 million per season; the Titans exercised an option on Fisher’s contract at the end of last season. This deal is expected to be announced some time today. Not too long ago, it appeared that Fisher was on the hot seat, as the team suffered through two consecutive losing seasons. But after the Titans drafted University of Texas quarterback Vince Young, the Titans finished last season 8-8.

In parts of 14 seasons as head coach, all of them with the Titans, Fisher has a regular season win-loss record of 106-94; he also owns a 5-4 postseason mark as well. He also guided the titans back in 1999 to the Titans’ lone Super Bowl apperance
