Jets’ comeback not enough in 20-13 loss to Ravens
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets

45 minutes of the New York Jets-Baltimore Ravens game seemed to dictate an easy Ravens victory. But Jets quarterback Kellen Clemens, starting for injured starter Chad Pennington, put together 15 minutes of inspired play; however it was not nearly enough as the Jets fell to the Ravens 20-13. Clemens, in describing the Ravens, said, “They were everything that they were chopped up to be, that’s for sure. They’re very talented, they made a lot of plays. They held us pretty much in check for most of the game.”
Clemens was pretty much ineffective against the Ravens’s secondary until it mattered the most; he went 9-for-18 for 84 yards through 3 quarters, before exploding for 176 yards and a touchdown in the 4th quarter. Clemens finished with 260 yards on 19-for-37 passing but with 2 interceptions. Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis intercepted a Clemens pass in the end zone to seal the win for the Ravens. Jets RB Thomas Jones had a mediocre game, rushing for 67 yards on 24 carries. Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery led all receivers with 165 yards. Ravens TE Todd heap led the Ravens with 7 catches for 76 yards and a score.
The score was 20-13 when a 50-yard completion by Clemens got the Jets to the Ravens’ 20-yard line just before the 2-minute warning. A dropped TD pass by Jets WR Justin McCareins at the 5 then 3 plays later, Clemens was short on a pass to WR Laveranues Coles in the end zone. The Lewis interception came shortly thereafter. Ravens QB Kyle Boller, who replaced starter Steve McNair, went 23-for-35 for 185 yards and 2 TD’s while RB Willis McGahee added 97 yards on the ground on 26 carries and a TD reception.
The Ravens lost in the 3rd quarter defensive end Trevor Pryce with a broken wrist. The ravens hope to ride their victory into next week when they play at home against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The 0-2 Jets hope to reverse their fortunes when they face the Miami Dolphins in a AFC East matchup on Sunday.
