Garrard, Jaguars’ defense stifle Atlanta, 13-7
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars did an about face from their season opener last week; the Jags’ defense sacked Atlanta Falcons quarterback seven times and held the Falcons to under 100 yards rushing in a 13-7 victory in Jacksonville. What may have been the nail in the coffin for the Falcons was the field goal kicking of rookie Matt Prater. Prater missed 2 FG’s, one of 43 yards that was wide right and one of 26 yards – also wide right. Prater is now 1-for-4 on FG attempts.
Jaguars QB David Garrard had a good outing, going 17-for-25 for 272 yards with a TD. Jags wide receiver Dennis Northcutt led the Jags with 75 yards in recptions; Reggie Williams added 41 yards receiving with a TD reception. Falcons QB Joey Harrington went 12-for-20 for 200 yards, but with no TD’s; he was also sacked 7 times; on the flip side, Garrard was sacked 4 times.
The leading receiver for the Falcons was WR Roddy White who caught 4 passes for 81 yards. The newest addition to the Jaguars, kicker John Carney (signed to replace the injured Josh Scobee) acquitted himself well, kicking 2 FG’s. Carney’s 26-yard FG with 3:39 remaining gave the Jaguars a 13-7 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. The 1-1 Jaguars next travel to Denver to face the Denver Broncos while the winless Falcons host the Carolina Panthers in a inter-divisional matchup.
