Tomlinson throws for, rushes for TD in Chargers 14-3 win over the Bears

In what could possibly be a preview of the 2008 Super Bowl, today’s game between the Chicago Bears and the home team San Diego Chargers could best be described in one word: ugly. Chargers running back LaDanian Tomlinson ran for and threw a touchdown as the Chargers defeated the Bears at Qualcomm Stadium.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had a subpar day, going 22-for-31 for 190 yards and an interception; his counterpart QB Rex Grossman, fared much worse. Grossman went 12-for-23 for 145 yards with an INT. But in what was probably the most telling statistic, the Bears fumbled the ball 4 times, losing 3 of them. Chargers tight end Antonio Gates had a productive day as one would expect, catching 9 passes for 107 yards and a TD.

The only bright spot for the Bears was WR Bernard Berrian; he caught 5 balls for 83 yards. Depending on your perspective, it was either stellar defense by both teams (202 total yards for the Bears, 263 total yards for the Chargers) or simply anemic offense by both teams. An ugly win by the Chargers, yet a win all the same. The Bears will regroup as they play next Sunday against the equally anemic Kansas City Chiefs, while the 1-0 Chargers visit the New England Patriots in a must-see Sunday night affair.
