Kitna passes for 3 TD’s in Lions’ 36-21 win over the Raiders
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders
Offense, not defense, was the order of the day at McAfee Coliseum as Detroit Lions quarterback Jon Kitna threw for 289 yards with three touchdowns and defensive end Dewayne White made some key plays as the Lions spoiled the Oakland Raiders’ home opener 36-21. Both teams’ defenses were a nonentity as they combined for 767 total net yards.
Kitna enjoyed some very good pass protection against the Raiders usually stellar defense; Kitna finished going 27-for-36 for 3 TD’s and 2 INT’s. His counterpart, Raiders QB Josh McCown, finished his day going 30-40 for 313 yards with 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s. Lions WR’s Roy Williams, Shaun McDonald and rookie Calvin Williams all scored a TD while Raiders WR Ronald Curry and FB Justin Griffith both scored a TD for the losing Raiders.
Curry along with the TD had 10 catches for 133 yards while Raiders RB Lamont Jordan scored a TD and totalled 132 yards of total offense. Kitna and the victorious Lions go for 2 in a row when they play their home opener on September 16 against divisional rival Minnesota Vikings. The Raiders go for their first victory when they play the hometown Denver Broncos, also on September 16.
