Eagles TE Smith questionable for game vs. Green Bay

L.J. Smith, EaglesIt is a good thing that tight end is not a position of weakness for the Philadelphia Eagles. Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press reports that Eagles TE L.J. Smith has been downgraded to questionable for the Eagles visit to Green Bay for their season opener. Smith had been bothered by a groin injury that kept him out of all of the preseason games and the majority of team training camp.

Assuming Smith is not able to play, reserve TE’s Matt Schobel and rookie Brent Celek will assume Smith’s role. Although no time is a good time to suffer an injury, for Smith it is a pivotal time; this is the final year of his current contract. Last year, he caught 50 balls for 611 yards and 5 touchdowns, so this season is important in more ways than one for Smith. After Friday’s practice, Smith told the Associated Press, “I’m working hard to get back on the field, but your body is going to tell you when it’s ready. If I can’t go out there and be efficient when I’m out there then what’s the point of going out there.” True enough L.J., but get healed and get healed quickly; the Eagles will need your contributions during the season.
