Packers WR Driver Hurt in Loss to Jags

Driver hurt 

The Green Bay Packers, already thin at wide receiver, are for the time being without their top wideout.  Donald Driver injured his foot just before halftime in the Packers loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday night at Lambeau Field.  According to team head coach Mike McCarthy, he initially said that Driver suffered a foot sprain; McCarthy added, “He’s in good spirits.  So we’ll have more information tomorrow.”  Driver was injured spinning away from Jaguars cornerbacks Terry Cousin and Brian Williams then getting tackled by Sammy Knight, landing awkwardly on the foot.  As a result he was carted away.

Depthwise, the Packers are shaky at WR.  After Driver, you have Greg Jennings (who by proxy goes to #1 WR, then Ruvell Martin, James Jones (rookie), Carlyle Holiday, and other lesser known names on their roster.  Depth isn’t really the issue insomuch as the quality of the backups. Jennings is probably the most experienced of the remaining WR’s on the Packers then it gets real thin.  The Packers can only hope that Driver’s injury is not very severe; the only positive that I see out of this is (if you want to call it that) for the Packers to make sense on which WR’s they plan to keep.  I would expect an announcement to come from the team shortly as it will affect the WR corps to an extent.
