Titans Coach Fisher Expects and Deserves a New Deal

One season after being on the hot seat as far as coaches go in the NFL, Titans head coach Jeff Fisher is now looking to get a new deal to say with the Titans long-term.  Fisher is in the final year of his contract, but sources say that he thinks he and the team are going to be able without much haggling to get a new deal in place.

“I expect it to get done,” Fisher said in Thursday’s edition of The Tennessean. “I would say the same thing I’ve been saying: negotiations are progressing. Nobody’s put a timetable on anything and we’re just moving forward. I don’t anticipate any problems and I fully expect to be here.” 

Of course if there is any issues with getting Fisher signed, there will be plenty of teams out there that would love to have him as their coach.  The short list includes the usual suspects of teams whose coaches likely won’t be around in 2008 - Cleveland’s Romeo Crennel, Tom Coughlin in New York with the Giants, Joe Gibbs in Washington, and possibly John Fox in Carolina if the Panthers have another down season.

Fisher is one of the better head coaches in the game.  He took a Titans team last season that started 0-5, and by mid-December with a rookie QB and some suspect talent on other positions had Tennessee clawing at a wild card spot in the AFC.  Fisher has proven his worth over the years with the Titans, and even though he has yet to win a Super Bowl, he deserves a long-term deal to stay with the team.

    you are crazy! fisher should have been fired after the playoff loss to baltimore in 2000. this team will never win a super bowl as long as he and his hand-picked lackies are in charge. if bud adams really wanted to win a super bowl (and that has been in doubt since his days in houston), he’d fire fisher and all of fisher’s boys and get a real motivator, someone who will give this organization direction and identity. Since fisher has been there, this team has played consistently predictable football, year in and year out, whether it’s getting outcoached by baltimore and indy every year to the “stay close enough and hope the kicker can win it at the end” strategy. Fisher would be a memory if I were in charge. Alas, you morons in tennessee don’t know jack about what nfl football is all about anyway. I’m not surprised you people love fisher. After all, anyone not from tennessee who would attend a titans game in nashville would think they were at a national cheerleading competition and not an nfl football game. Who are the juveniles in charge of the titans home game festivities anyway? Just wondering. I’d love for bud adams to wake up from his 10 year nap and put a real nfl team on the field.
