49er’s Defensive End Oliver Tears MCL

Posted by Jim Dubenetzky under NFL

Organized team activities did not go very well for Melvin Oliver. He tore the MCL (medial collateral ligament) in his right knee on Tuesday. Oliver was injured while participating in a drill that didn’t even involve contact.

This isn’t a huge loss to the 49er’s though. Oliver wasn’t expected to see as much playing time as he did last season when he made 50 tackles and had a fumble recovery for a touchdown. The 49er’s expect free agent acquisition Aubrayo Franklin to notch a lot of minutes on the D-Line. They also hope to sign former Eagles defensive lineman Sam Rayburn this weekend.

This unfortunate injury just goes to show us that any player at any time during any type of workout can be injured and miss the season. So cross your fingers in the hopes that no players on your favorite team go down this off-season.
